Tough Road as of June 3

Hi, this is Kathy, Andrea's mom posting tonight. As everyone knows by now, Andrea is one tough, determined young lady. She has also been in some excruciating pain, but WITH YOUR PRAYERS, she is pulling through pain after pain, moment after moment. As soon as she checked in May 4, she was determined to get on with what she knew would be a "tough treatment". She named her IV stand "Wheely" and started her walking exercises with it as it pumped her with every kind of hydration fluid, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral drug along with 2 very strong chemotherapies and the precious bone marrow stem cells from Kristin. The week she could not even put water in her mouth because it felt like acid, she did not walk but still did some bed exercises. Today she went to the gym for 25 minutes with the physical therapist and I thought did well, but she was disappointed at the strength she has lost. She clearly remembers running 3 miles a day in November. The doctor says "maybe next week" Andrea can go home, so they are in the process of changing the IV fluids to pill form since she can swallow again. They monitor her blood levels every day then prescribe the appropriate medicine and drugs and will need to continue doing that for many weeks to come, so once we get home we will need to either trek to MDA or maybe home health service may do some. Andrea's eyesight is still blurry and we know she does have cataracts in addition to the retina problem, so as soon as she gets discharged, we will go back to her retina specialist and see what miracles he can perform. SO, we're calling on you again to petition God. He is faithful, and we know you are too, with your prayers. Thank you all, so very much. We have our precious Andrea with us here because God listened to each and every one of you.
God bless and love to all, Kathy

Dear Kathy -- I am continuing my prayers, but will now preface them with "Urgent". Andrea is one strong young woman -- I have never known anyone like her. I hate the thought of her being in so much pain and being discouraged. I pray that this "down" time will pass quickly so she can go home and get on with the process of healing and getting her eyesight improved. You all have been through so much in such a short period of time. God bless you and Andrea, and I will keep the prayers going.

Love, Carolyn

We are all praying and pulling for Andrea. She is an inspiration to so very many people. We will continue to pray and pray and know that our prayers are heard and answered. We pray for God to help Andrea stay strong, as she has since day one, and to keep the faith and continue to heal day by day. If the Lord is with her, who can be against her? Much love to Andrea, J and all of your family and friends.

Andrea,
Hey sis, I've been thinking about you over here in Italy, and hope that your doing well. I pray for you everyday, and even get to do my prayers in some pretty amazing churches over here. My experiences here have only brought me closer to God, and the prayers that he has answered in your name have only strenghted my beliefs in his love for us all. I have sent you a postcard and will send you more from all the cities I visit. I miss you some much, hang in there, and you'll be back at home soon. I will call you tommorrow, Love you so much!

Love, Mary

Kathy,

Please know you have been in my prayers. As a nurse, I know families go through the same illness as the patient. I agree that Andrea is a very tough, courageous young lady. She has a wonderful support team! God is GOOD! I am praying that Andrea's pain will improve quickly and all the tests will prove the bone marrow transplant successful!! I am Betty Martin's sister and I hope to meet all of Andrea's family soon. We continue to pray without ceasing for complete recovery.
Prayers,
Shelia

Wow, Andrea! So many people are praying for you. That just shows how many people love and care for you--a testament to the wonderful person you are. Hang in there, girl! I'm praying for you, J, and your family as you fight the good fight together. Maybe I'll see you Wednesday night when I'm up at MDA, if you're up for a visit.

Love,

Sara

Andrea is a very strong and courageous person, and I know that God never puts anything in a person's life that they cannot handle. I know that she will pull through this. I am saying a prayer for her everyday. Thank you for continuing to update the blog.
